In my previous post, I discussed my initial thoughts on Instagram. Since then, I have posted 14 pictures all involving Lego photography. Originally, I had intended to post one or two pictures of Lego while I finish a painting. Then the painting would be posted on Instagram, however, the 4'x5' oil painting is taking a bit of time.

As individuals from across the globe began liking the photos, it led me to investigate their profiles. It turned out that there are other Lego lovers in the world besides me (Shocking!). The majority of Lego enthusiasts are sharing their love of Lego by posting pictures of their purchases, builds, or minifigures. There was an individual who called himself a professional toy-photographer, and his shots were gorgeous as well as funny. It made me realize that taking pictures has become an everyday activity, but there are individuals for whom it is a profession. It made me want to strengthen my skills

This is not to say that I consider myself a photographer all of a sudden, and why I created an additional section on my website. Instead, as with all of my art, I realized that I stumbled across another avenue of creative expression. And any creative expression can be seen by someone as art. Who knows, maybe someone from Lego will stumble across my website or Instagram and go ... "OMG! We need that guy to promote our products. He's soooo artistic." This is as likely of happening as tiny Lego pigs flying out of my butt. Especially, since self-motivated customer-created promotion is a welcome marketing avenue in today's age of social media. Nevertheless, one can hope.

Yet, I did create the additional section, and am now blogging about it because I wanted to share (duh!). With this new activity, not only am I thinking daily about my next scene, Lego character, comedic description, so forth, but I am motivated to try to perfect photographic skills such as lighting, focus, filter, etc. So in a year-or-two, I can be considered a triple threat painter/illustrator/photographer. Anyway, that's not really the intended purpose of trying my hand at photography. But the reason why I'm excited is because sometimes when painting a larger painting that takes a long while there is no creativity truly going on as you are just reproducing the sketch. Similar with drawing. This lag in creativity when delivering art is why many illustrators do quick warm-up sketches daily as well.

To end, I will modify a well known quote , "A dose of creativity per day, will keep the laziness away."
