Remotivation
This is my second commission in my life (image to the left - detailed explanation below)! I got invited to an art show! I have almost 200 followers on Instagram ... and I'm battling work, which is also going extremely well.
Since I made my new years resolution to focus more and more on artwork, I have begun to realize how difficult it is to have a full-time job (or as I'm a consultant ... double the full-time job), balance family life, and do art. This is not to say that I'm not striving to continuously do artwork, but after a while you lose your steam. Therefore, you need to consistently re-motivate yourself. "Re-motivate" - to find the motivation to do something that you have already motivated yourself to do.
My re-motivating strategies are to:
Instagram; inspiration can be found in other people's artwork.
Reading; comic books, art books, or artist histories all put you into the artist mindset.
Social Media; updating Facebook, Instagram, Blogging, or my Website forces you to continue to create new content
Journaling; tracking how much art you are doing every day, reminds you to do art
Sketching; continue practicing for yourself
Ideating; this is different than sketching as for me it involves Photoshopping possible paintings
Discussion; talking about artwork with family and friends
However, there is something missing, and that is participating in the art community. This supposedly is a very important part of remotivation as surrounding yourself with what you want to do and be helps support your own identity. But I don't participate yet ... probably because I have a 730-5 PM job + a new family = no time for other activities. Or maybe it's winter in Toronto, and I have no interest in traversing in minus degree weather to galleries. There is always more to do.
Nevertheless, this blog is a remotivation exercise to force myself to continue to believe in my journey.
